Photo Director, Alice An, is a freelance designer and entrepreneur based in New York City. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in textiles and apparel design and conservation, with a concentration in psychology and business foundations from the University of Texas at Austin. While in school, she was an original board member of the Center for Asian American Studies, sat as committee chair of Asian American Culture Committee of Texas Union Council, and was a founding member and editor-in-chief of Asian Collections, a student publication created to give a voice to the "silent minority." After working full time in the New York fashion industry for companies such as Liz Claiborne, and doing private label for Ann Taylor, Alice went out on her own by starting a small jewelry line, continuing to take projects in art development for fashion companies and freelancing as a make-up artist, stylist, image consultant and photo shoot production manager.
She sees ALTRA as a vehicle in which she can help shape and contribute to a community bursting with potential, and at the same time, fulfill her desire to make a positive influence on society as a whole.
In her free time Alice likes to sleep because she no longer gets much of that.
Steve is a web developer with the Fox Broadcasting Company in Los Angeles. He graduated from the Johns Hopkins University, and recently obtained his MBA degree from the Marshall School of Business at USC. Fight On!
He continues a strong presence in Asian-American cultural affairs, including positions in several professional Asian organizations.
Born in Boston, Jane is currently a UCLA student living and interning in New York. She hopes to make some modest leaps as a writer as well as revisit her East Coast roots. Solitude is her best companion in the City as she spends her leisure in private bookstores, but the NYPL is just as acceptable. A self-professed foodie and gumshoe of the undiscovered, Jane constantly edits her list of things to eat and do before returning to Los Angeles. How she will cover Magnolia Bakery, King Lear, and all things in between is a minor concern. If anything, Jane will go back with a worthy collection of adventures for her future memoirs.
Michael Seto is a free-lance writer and photographer with a focus on portraiture, documentary, travel and photojournalistic images, as well as photographing events for various publications. A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Michael is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. In addition to writing and photography, Michael served as an infantry officer in the Marine Corps, worked on Capital Hill, and spent ten years at Morgan Stanley. His financial writing has won awards from Institutional Investor and he has appeared on CNBC and been quoted in BusinessWeek and the Wall Street Journal. An inveterate traveler, Michael has visited all seven continents and over 80 countries; and while he has lived in Hawaii, Okinawa, and Hong Kong, he calls New York City home.
Glen Isip is a freelance graphic designer working in New York City. He holds a BFA in Graphic Design from Pratt Institute and has worked in advertising and small business. When not designing, Glen also illustrates, writes, and composes music.
James is an award-winning writer and communications consultant who lives in New York City. He says he knew his career direction at age 11, when he spent his summer vacation writing a 163-page novel. (It's still unpublished.) After graduating magna cum laude from Princeton University, he got his start in public relations and freelanced as a journalist for four years. More recently, he has worked with some of the world's largest communications firms. In his free time, James has taught creative writing to inner-city residents, and has served on the board of a non-proft organization devoted to promoting sports within racially diverse communities.
Brett Rosenblatt is a software entrepreneur and writer living in New York City. After graduating from Northeastern University with a degree in Journalism and Creative Writing, he worked as a freelance journalist for local Boston and New York publications, as well as an investigator for various organizations in the Animal Rights and Environmental movements. After returning to study at Columbia in NYC, he founded F-Line Technologies, inventing and producing software for the global telecommunications industry. He has also been a meditation teacher and martial arts instructor, and can occasionally be found playing the drums at local Irish Pups. Brett’s fiction can be found in various literary and consumer publications, including Newsday Magazine, Rose and Thorn, Opium, Withersin, Spectrum Magazine, Susurrus and others.
Michael Martin is currently a 4th year undergraduate at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
During the 2007-2008 academic year, he studied political science and Chinese language at Peking University through the University of California's Education Abroad Program. While in China, Michael interned at several high profile media publications, which allowed him the opportunity to interview Chinese people of various backgrounds and points of view. He believes that he learned more about China from interacting with Chinese citizens than he did in class. He hopes to share this real-life education with the world as a journalist who provides readers with a new, honest perspective on social and cultural issues.
Michael's multi-ethnic background allows him to understand the issues of the Asian-American community from the paradoxical perspective of an insider-looking-in. He does not have any religious or political beliefs, and he is most accurately described as an existentialist.
